Fitbit’s New Tracker is Seriously Gorgeous

The Fitbit Alta, released today, is a fitness wearable that’s well, more wearable.
Two years ago, I was a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding. The morning of the event, like good bridesmaids, the other women and I had our hair and makeup done, slipped on our tailored dresses and checked our flawless nails. Finally, ready for photos, the bride looked at us and said: “You guys look great, but seriously?” Half of us were still wearing our big garish, clunky fitness trackers—and they had to go.
Fitness trackers work best when you wear them consistently, but many of the devices on the market don’t blend easily with an upscale outfit. The Alta answers that issue with a sleek design that could easily work with a cocktail dress. The display pops into rubber bands for working out and stainless steel or natural grain leather for when you want a more polished look.
James Park, CEO and Co-Founder of Fitbit calls the Atla “our most fashionable device yet,” and adds, “With our large, engaged global social community, Alta is an exciting product for everyday users who are looking for a simple way to stay motivated and connected that also fits with their personal style.”
Naturally, there’s substance behind the style. The Alta tracks your daily activity, exercise and sleep, while pairing with your phone to deliver call, text and calendar notifications right on screen.

Two reasons runners should get excited: First, the device can tell when your activity jumps up a notch so it automatically switches to workout mode when you do. The same goes for sleep, so there’s no need to change the settings throughout your normal day. Second, the Atla includes a new feature called Reminders to Move, which is exactly that—a friendly nudge if you’ve been sedentary for too long.
Celebrity trainer and Fitbit ambassador Harley Pasternak explains, “Clients of mine who train for marathons often think since they’ve done their run and that gives them permission to not move at all for the rest of the day.” (Raise your hand if this sounds familiar!) Pasternak argues that constant movement is crucial to health. “Sitting is the new smoking,” he says. “We know that your hormones, your heart, your pancreas are all negatively impacted by being still.”
If you want to ramp up your activity level and your style points, the FitBit Alta is available now for presale ($129.95) at Amazon
